Truck of the Month Winner and Truck of the Year Contender
Queensland House Removers is proud to have been featured in the December issue of Owner Driver magazine, one of Australia’s most respected publications within the transport and heavy vehicle industry. The feature not only highlighted QHR’s specialised relocation work but also showcased the company’s latest Mack Super-Liner, which went on to win Truck of the Month and is now in the running for Truck of the Year.
The article followed a complex overnight relocation project in South East Queensland, providing readers with a rare behind-the-scenes look at how high-powered machinery, advanced trailer technology, and decades of experience come together to move entire homes safely and precisely.
A Purpose-Built Mack Designed for Precision Work
At the centre of the feature was QHR’s newest addition to the fleet — a Mack Super-Liner fitted with the latest MP11 engine, delivering an impressive 780 horsepower. While the power figures are remarkable, what truly sets this truck apart is how carefully it was configured for the unique demands of house relocation.
Unlike long-haul trucks, house moving requires exceptional manoeuvrability, low gearing and absolute control at very slow speeds. For this reason, the Mack was built with a shorter wheelbase and compact sleeper, allowing it to access tight pickup and drop-off sites where larger trucks simply cannot operate.
Combined with Mack’s advanced 14-speed mDRIVE transmission, the vehicle provides the low gearing needed to move loads exceeding 55 tonnes in stop-start conditions, often navigating narrow roads, steep inclines and confined spaces.
A Family Legacy Shaped by Experience
The feature also explored the journey of Queensland House Removers through its owner, John Wright, whose involvement in the industry extends back more than 30 years. First introduced to house relocation through his father, John gained hands-on exposure from an early age, developing a strong appreciation for both the technical demands and practical realities of moving large structures.
This depth of experience has steadily influenced QHR’s way of working. Over time, it has driven careful investment in dependable equipment, continual refinement of relocation methods, and the development of a highly capable team with the expertise to manage projects many would consider too complex.
That level of skill was clearly evident in the relocation highlighted in the article, which required two nine-metre-wide buildings to be transported from North Brisbane to the foothills of Lamington National Park. The move spanned roughly 150 kilometres and took more than six hours, with much of the journey carried out overnight to reduce impact on roads and local communities.
Advanced Trailers and Skilled Operators
Beyond the truck itself, the feature highlighted QHR’s significant investment in specialist house-moving trailers, sourced from leading manufacturers in New Zealand. These trailers are highly modular and computer-controlled, allowing operators to raise, lower, steer and even move loads sideways with precision measured in inches.
Throughout the relocation, QHR’s team worked alongside pilots and police escorts, carefully navigating roadworks, narrow bridges and steep terrain. What initially appeared impossible was executed with calm coordination, clear communication and meticulous care — qualities that have become synonymous with the QHR name.
Industry Recognition That Reflects Real-World Performance
Winning Truck of the Month was a significant acknowledgement of both the Mack Super-Liner and the way it has been integrated into QHR’s operations. Being shortlisted for Truck of the Year further recognises how purpose-built equipment, when paired with skilled operators, delivers outstanding real-world results.
For Queensland House Removers, the recognition is not just about the truck itself, but about the people behind it — a team that continues to set the standard for safe, efficient and professional house relocation across Queensland and northern New South Wales.
